Adventure Microlights is an
exciting new Cairns Highlands business offering trial
instructional microlight flights over the beautiful
Atherton Tableland. Prices start from $129.00 for 30
minutes or $229.00 for one hour. Microlighting is a strictly regulated aviation sport
which comes under the supervision of CASA, Australia’s
Aviation Safety Authority. All our aircraft are
certified to CASA requirements and meticulously
maintained.
This brand new business has
grown out of 3 years working in the Cairns tourism and
aviation industry.
Dave Keough, an experienced HGFA
(Hang Gliding Federation of Australia) Chief Flying
Instructor and an Atherton Tableland local, has been
flying hangliders for 20 years. Turning his attention to
microlights, he has been introducing people to this
wonderful sport for the past 5 years.
Dave
is based at Atherton Airport, a short scenic drive from
Cairns.
Adventure Microlights operates 7 days per week, weather
permitting.
This
weight-shift aircraft only needs a very short take-off and
landing distance so when it comes to flying, a Microlight
will give you true freedom to decide where you want to fly.
For those who
wish to proceed further, full pilot certificate and
endorsement training is available. All it takes is a phone
call (or maybe a gift certificate from a loved one?) to book
in for your one hour trial introductory flight (TIF).
It usually requires around
20 to 25 hours of training to reach solo stage. With this
license you are able to fly solo and fly a distance of 25
Nautical miles from your base. Depending on weather
conditions you can usually have a full course completed in
around two weeks.
After that, another 10
hours of instruction to receive your cross-country
endorsement and the “sky’s the limit” as they say!
Microlights have come a long way in past 15 years or
so, it is a strictly regulated aviation sport which
comes under the supervision of CASA, Australia’s
Aviation Safety Authority. All our aircraft are
certified to CASA requirements and meticulously
maintained.
Some pilots choose to fly around their local area
whilst others set out on exciting cross-country
adventures. Flights to date include circumnavigation
of Australia, and several flights from England to
Australia.
One epic adventure was Brian Milton’s
circumnavigation of the World, with a passenger! A
microlight has even flown up to 27000 feet to clear
the summit of Mt Everest!
